Every bride wonders about this and few ask it outright at the start. It is also the question we cannot answer with a single number — and not because we are dodging it.

Why there is no price list

Made-to-measure has no size-based price list the way ready-to-wear does, because no two dresses are the same: different design, different fabric, different measurements, different amount of work. A single figure posted on a website would be wrong for almost every case.

What is genuinely useful is understanding what drives the cost. Once you know that, you can steer the dress towards the budget you have in mind, instead of only being able to nod or shake your head at a number.

1. Fabric — the part you can see

This is the widest gap and the easiest to understand. Satin comes in many grades and the prices sit far apart. Double-faced satin is soft with a beautiful fall but still has body. Mikado satin is heavier with a slightly matte surface and holds a shape very well, which suits structured silhouettes.

With lace the range is wider still. Machine lace and imported French corded lace are two different worlds, in price and in handling. The finer the lace, the more its pattern has to be cut along the curve of the body rather than straight — which uses more fabric and more hours.

One thing that surprises people: the amount of fabric is not proportional to your size. A close-cut fishtail can use less fabric than a full multi-layered skirt, even on a smaller frame.

2. How complex the shape is

This is the part hardest to picture, because it sits inside the dress. A simple column needs few seams. A fishtail needs many panels to follow the body closely and then release at the hem — and each panel is another round of drafting and another test in paper.

With a lace dress there is something you never see: an inner foundation sewn separately underneath. Lace on its own is soft; without that structure inside, the bodice will not hold.
